Callum Cormack

Callum started his career in fresh produce on his 16th birthday at Woolworth's Supermarkets. With no produce history, he had to learn very quickly. With persistence and great pride he moved up the ranks and found himself managing some of the biggest produce departments in the state.
Breaking sales records and leading great teams, this did not go un-noticed and was approached with the opportunity of becoming a Woolworths Buyer. This experience gave Callum great exposure to direct relationships with growers and agents.
In 2008, Callum made what he thinks was the biggest decision of his produce career to join the Moraitis Group. His role within the group now presented the task of selling back to the supermarkets. The Moraitis group supplied in excess of 350,000 tonnes of fresh product a year. With a National footprint in farming, JVs, wholesaling, value- adding and logistics, Callum had to quickly learn the art of getting product to its customers as fresh as possible. The initial job role was as an Account Manager, to then be rewarded the positon of General manager of Sales. Callum believes the Moraitis Group gave him a wealth of opportunity to learn, gain experience, create strong relationships and be part of the best side of the produce industry.
In 2012, Callum won the National ‘Col Johnson Young Achievers Award’ at the Aus./NZ PMA, which was presented to him for showing leadership, passion, enthusiasm and willingness to grow in the produce industry. This award was voted on by Industry Leaders.
After 7 years’ service, Callum has now moved on to Westmores, as General Manager of Sales, dealing with the major supermarkets, market buyers and general operations of the business.
Westmores is a family owned business, EST in 1946. Primarily the business has been a supplier of apples, pears and stonefruit, but this has now changed. The business needed to diversify, as the industry is forever changing.
Westmores is now seen as a quality supplier of Avocados, Cherries, Custard Apples, Capsicums, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Figs, Finger Limes, Passionfruit, Gourmet Tomatoes, Roma Tomatoes, Truss Tomatoes, Niche tomatoes, Zucchini and yes the Apples, Pears and Stonefruit still feature aswell.
Callum hopes he can mentor other young people into joining the produce industry in the future and get as much satisfaction out of it, as he has.
